Aberdeen's 50m Pool Project Board has announced the appointment of two award winning companies to take the city's pool project forward.
In what is a significant development for the project leading construction consultancy, Davis Langdon will be project managers and FaulknerBrowns Architects will head the design team.
Davis Langdon provides managed solutions for clients investing in infrastructure, property and construction, worldwide.
The Glasgow and Edinburgh offices are currently working on a number of high profile projects, including both the National Indoor Sports Arena and Commonwealth Games Village in Glasgow, the Royal Hospital for Sick Children and the Royal Victoria Hospital in Edinburgh. The company has recently completed Stirling Sports Village.
It is the recipient of a number of industry awards including being voted BD World Architecture magazine's Top International Construction Consultant for sixteen successive years and was named Building magazine's Construction Consultant/Surveyor of the Year 2009 for the fourth consecutive year.
For the fifth year, the firm has been ranked in the Sunday Times '100 Best Companies to Work For' league table. The firm has in excess of 5,000 staff in some 105 offices worldwide.
FaulknerBrowns has achieved a national and international reputation for their design and delivery standards, and this is especially exemplified within the sports and leisure sector. They designed five of the facilities for the Commonwealth Games in Manchester in 2002 and, in 2005, their design excellence was recognised with by the coveted Building Design 'Architect of the Year Award' in the Sport and Leisure category.
They are currently designing, and have designed, both elite and community sports and leisure facilities across the length and breadth of the UK, and are working in Ireland, France, Dubai, Malta and The Netherlands where they have already successfully delivered a range of sports facilities.
Councillor Neil Fletcher, chair of 50m Pool Project Board, said: "I am delighted that the North-east's 50m pool project has reached this important milestone. The design and project consultants we have now appointed were picked from an extremely high quality field of bidders, and we look forward to a speedy progression towards our Stage 2 bid to Sportscotland."
Aberdeen City Council's vision for a 50m pool will have social benefits for the citizens of Aberdeen in terms of providing a swimming facility for leisure and training for all residents of Aberdeen. It will be a regional competition standard pool which will also help to attract visitors.
