Law Firm To Hold Climate Change Conferences

Leading Scottish law firm, HBJ Gateley Wareing, will be holding 'Climate Change Conferences' in Edinburgh on July 31 and in Glasgow on August 8.

The conferences, targeted at those involved in the commercial property sector, will provide practical solutions to assist them in preparing for new environmental legislation.

Topics include: the Climate Change Bill, planning aspects, energy performance certificates, green leases carbon trading and green taxes.

With legislation, such as the Climate Change Bill, being introduced to tackle climate change and reduce the carbon footprint of companies and organizations, there has never been a greater need for those involved in the commercial property sector to seriously address their environmental policies and devise strategies for reducing carbon emissions. If not already under way, this is a strategy that needs to be on every company's immediate agenda.

Environmental responsibility can also mean profitability, and ultimately competitive advantage, reducing exposure to energy prices or waste disposal costs, and when you reduce that, you reduce the volatility of your profits, resulting in a less risky business and attracting investment.

Paul Minto, Head of Public Service at HBJ Gateley Wareing said: "Climate change is the single biggest environmental challenge we face, and environmental legislation is being introduced which will have a clear impact on companies. From the Climate Change Bill to Green Leases, the implication for companies and organizations is immense.

"This seminar will provide those attending with the opportunity to understand what the impact will be and what practical solutions are available to assist them in preparing for this new legislation."
