Arc-Tech (Scotland) has completed work on two significant affordable housing developments in West Dunbartonshire, incorporating advanced renewable energy solutions and building services that contribute to some of the country's most energy-efficient homes.
At Clydebank East, West Dunbartonshire Council's largest ‘net zero ready' development of 88 homes, Arc-Tech's in-house divisions installed a purpose-built zero-emissions district heating system for the flatted block, alongside solar PV panels and sprinkler systems. This innovative heating system, designed in partnership with Hawthorne Boyle, comprises two industrial-scale air-source heat pumps and two water-to-water heat pumps, providing centralised heating and hot water.
A second Council-led project, Pappert in Bonhill, a 26-home scheme, also benefited from Arc-Tech's expertise. This development features a mix of 20 ‘net zero ready' homes and six 'Passivhaus' homes for social rent. All properties are equipped with sprinklers and EV charging points. Crucially, each net-zero property with solar PV panels also includes solar battery storage units, with Arc-Tech being one of a few providers certified to install the TESLA Energy ‘Powerwall' in Scotland. These units store solar-generated energy for later use, optimising consumption and reducing bills.
John Gallacher, Managing Director of Arc-Tech (Scotland), commented on the Clydebank East project: "Through this early engagement, our team – alongside Hawthorne Boyle – were able to develop innovative solutions to ensure the Building Services package for the contract could practically be installed on an affordable basis." Regarding Pappert, he added: "The addition of solar batteries can lower energy bills even further, and it is a testament to the Council for piloting their use to understand more about how the technology can potentially be adopted to tackle the fuel poverty agenda at scale across the region."
These projects underscore Arc-Tech's in-house capabilities in delivering sustainable, low-carbon housing solutions for local authorities.
