Railway Bridge Demolished And Replaced At Craigo Road
Network Rail has successfully demolished an old bridge over the railway line at Craigo Road, near Marykirk, and begun construction of a replacement.
The project, which involved closing the railway line on Sunday, 5th January, saw engineers remove the existing bridge and crane in the main sections of the new structure.
The new bridge is designed to accommodate heavier and increased traffic volumes.
A temporary bridge has been installed to maintain road access for the community while construction continues.
The project is expected to be completed by spring this year.
Magda Rutkowska, scheme project manager for Network Rail, said: "It's fantastic to complete this critical stage of work on time at Craigo Road, a huge well done to my team who carried out the work despite freezing conditions.
"Our focus now turns to diverting utilities onto the new structure, before laying the road surface ahead of the bridge reopening in April.
"We know there's never a good time to close the railway, and we're grateful to passengers and the community for their patience whilst this vital project takes place."
Work at Craigo Road is due to be completed in April and is part of a wide-ranging bridge modernisation programme aimed at increasing reliability and improving performance on Scotland's Railway.
