Falkirk Council has successfully completed 11 projects funded by the Scottish Government's Nature Restoration Fund (NRF). The £348,000 investment has been used to restore nature, enhance nature networks, and improve biodiversity across the area.
Key projects include:
• Spaces for Nature & Nature Networks: This initiative, delivered in partnership with Greenspace Scotland, has connected urban green spaces to create a nature-friendly network. Fourteen sites have been enhanced with wildflowers, trees, and other plants to support local wildlife. Community activities have also been organized to educate residents about sustainable practices.
• Climate Forth: Rannoch Park: Rannoch Park is undergoing a significant transformation, with the first phase focusing on creating wetlands, woodlands, and meadows filled with nectar-rich plants. New seating areas and a community orchard have also been added, enhancing the park's appeal to both wildlife and local residents.
• Invasive Species Control: The council has addressed the issue of invasive species at Avonglen Wildlife Site and Bantaskine Estate. By removing non-native plants, the council has restored natural woodland habitats, improving biodiversity and protecting the local environment.
These projects demonstrate Falkirk Council's commitment to environmental sustainability and community well-being. By investing in nature restoration, the council aims to create a greener, healthier, and more biodiverse future for the region.
