Pacific Building has completed major upgrades to three iconic golf and tourism-themed hotels, demonstrating the company's expertise in the leisure sector and their ability to successfully deliver top-tier projects.

The results of the makeover programmes at the Rusacks in St Andrews, the Marine Hotel and Spa in North Berwick and the Holiday Inn at Edinburgh Zoo have been described as "truly striking", relying heavily on Pacific's bespoke joinery workshop to deliver custom-made pieces.

At the Rusacks, which is just a seven-iron shot away from the world-famous Old Course Links, Pacific were commissioned to fit out a new fourth-floor restaurant within a stunning new extension.

Using the value-added skills of the workshop, Pacific's team fabricated a new bar, wood panelling, column-and-beam cladding and banquette seating. This was then installed by the company's on-site staff, along with other works including decoration, tiling, flooring and building services installation.

The finished restaurant is truly impressive, with full-length windows overlooking the nearby links, honeyed, glossy wood panelling, mood lighting, striking floor tiling, period upholstery and enveloping banquette seating.

At the Marine Hotel, which is surrounded by world-class
 courses and is a favourite with golfers form all over the world, Pacific carried out a complete refurbishment of the hotel's 84 bedrooms and corridor areas, renovated the library and drawing room, bar and terrace as well as the main reception and front-of-house areas.

The project involved the stripping out of existing furnishings, finishes, joinery and other installations; refurbishment of existing doors and frames; upgrades to existing windows; installation of new floor, wall and ceiling finishes; new mechanical, electrical and plumbing and IT installations; decoration; and the installation of custom-made furniture and fittings.

The Marine Hotel – situated on Scotland's famous Golf Coast – is now back to its best, catering to lovers of the sport and those who are just interested in exploring the beautiful countryside to the east of Edinburgh.

At the Holiday Inn, Edinburgh, which is not far from the city's world-famous zoo and is a real holiday-making hotspot, Pacific upgraded the main entrance, reception, bar and lounges.

This landmark hotel (one of the largest in Scotland's capital) remained operational and open to the public during the makeover, which took 13 weeks.

Again, Pacific's bespoke joinery workshop fabricated the custom-designed reception desk, bar, waiter stations and storage cubicles.

Company Managing Director Gerard McMahon said: "The hospitality, travel and tourism sectors have been hit hard by the COVID pandemic but their contribution to the national economy is vital.

"So it is great to see three such iconic establishments make serious investments in their futures with a view to picking up from where they left off before coronavirus adversely affected us all.

"It is also particularly pleasing to see that our investment in a bespoke joinery workshop is starting to pay major dividends."

The environmentally sustainable facility has provided jobs for six new staff and features all-new machinery, tooling and other equipment, and it covers an area three times the size of the workshop they formerly used at their main base in Hillington, on the outskirts of Glasgow.

The six-figure investment by Pacific – whose clients include McDonald's restaurants, pub and restaurant chain Mitchells & Butlers, JD Wetherspoon and Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Manchester International Airports – gives the company the ability to manufacture superior quality specialist pieces to meet increasing demand from the hospitality, retail and travel sectors.

As main contractors, Pacific would previously have had to source manufactured joinery items from external suppliers and often engage a third party to install. This meant that they had limited control over quality, which may only have become apparent at the time of delivery to site.
