North Ayrshire Council has taken steps towards the creation of 500 new affordable homes in the area.
The homes will be delivered over a ten year period.
Over the investment programme, the Council aims to build 500 new affordable rented homes. The programme has already delivered 63 new homes in Castlepark, Irvine, and at St. Michael’s Wynd in Kilwinning. The Council has also unveiled new homes at Harley Place, Saltcoats, and refurbished flats in Wilwinning town centre. Work has also started on 46 new homes at Redstone Avenue in Kilwinning.
Each of the developments has been planned with the specific needs of the community in mind, including providing amenity houses for elderly residents, or working with families of children with disabilities to design the accommodation they need.
The ongoing projects at Redstone Avenue and St Beya Gardens, Millport, represent a £7.6m investment and will create 58 new homes.
Future projects include the development of the John Galt and Dickson Drive sites in Irvine, the Stevenson Institute site in Largs, and the re-development of sheltered and amenity units in Irvine and Kilbirnie.
Councillor Anthea Dickson, Cabinet Member for Health and Social Care, said: "Every member of the team involved in the council house building programme has worked exceptionally hard to make these developments a success.
"Our goal is to ensure that affordable housing is available to as many people. Happily, we have seen that this ambition does not preclude high standards.
"We are also committed to all sections of the North Ayrshire community and have worked closely with the people who need more specialist accommodation to design modern, state of the art homes which meet their individual needs.
"Supporting people to live independently is one of our main priorities and there is no question that investing in affordable and tailored housing is at the heart of our efforts."
