A consultation on the proposals to build a new Madras College at St Andrews has been launched.
The consultation will run until 8 March and will include a series of public meetings, displays and online information.
It will focus on the educational advantages of building a new school on site at the Pipeland site.
Planning matters will be dealt with later in the process.
The proposal is to build a new, £40m purpose-built facility at Pipeland.
Concepts such as the use of natural light and open spaces and environmental and technology considerations are among the proposals.
North East Fife councillors are encouraging as many people as possible to take part.
Cllr. Bryan Poole, Spokesperson for Education, Children, Young People and Families said: "As councillors we have given the matter of the Madras College replacement more detailed consideration and scrutiny than any other single issue in this council to date. At the Scrutiny Committee it was unanimously agreed to move ahead with the Executive Committee's decision to consult on Pipelands as the preferred site for a new school.
"It is now time for the most important stakeholders - the pupils of Madras and its feeder primaries and their parents, teachers and other interested parties - to have their say. Those same stakeholders have been campaigning for a replacement for the existing Madras College for many years - far too long some would say. This is decision time and I would want as many as possible of the aforementioned stakeholders to participate in that decision. The consultation that is now underway is that opportunity to participate. I would encourage everyone to do so. This will help us to ensure that we are making the right decision for Madras College pupils of today and into the future."
