The seven foot bronze statue was carved by apprentice stonemasons from Historic Scotland, with the lettering completed by an apprentice painter.

Historic Scotland's Director of Conservation, Dr David Mitchell, said: "This unveiling is the fruition of many years of hard work from the Marie Stuart Society, and indeed our own staff at Historic Scotland, which has involved a number of apprentices, palace staff, and conservation personnel."
The statue was commissioned by the Marie Stuart Society following several years of fundraising.
