Further Funding For Art Gallery Secured

Dumfries and Galloway Council has confirmed it has allocated an additional £270,000 to help convert Kirkcudbright Town Hall into an art gallery.

Last year, the local authority agreed to set aside £615,000 towards the project, but the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) had said the Council would need to increase its share of the funding.

An initial Stage 1 application by Dumfries and Galloway Council to the HLF had secured initial support of almost £1m, but in order for the Stage 2 bid to be successful, the HLF said the Council needed to meet the additional costs of £270,000, taking its funding to £885,000.

A decision to increase the funding package was agreed by members of the Council's Policy and Resources Committee on Tuesday (16 September), and to allow the Kirkcudbright Charter to go ahead.

The Kirkcudbright Charter aims to address the needs of the community as well as guarantee the future use of community buildings within the area. One of the initiatives of the Charter is the transformation of Kirdcudbright Town Hall.
