Extension Granted To Finish Utility Works

Blyth Utilities has been awarded an extension to its contract to complete works in Aberdeenshire.

In a statement, the local authority confirmed the developer was scheduled to finish a project to install gas, water and phone connections for a new housing development on Monday (28 July), however, this timescale was not met. The works are being carried out at Blairs on the South Deeside Road.

It is understood that the B9077 South Deeside Road, between Maryculter Bridge and the Aberdeen City boundary, has been subject to delays since 3 February. A Traffic Light Order has been in place for the last 26 weeks, but Blyth Utilities has now requested that it be extended by a further five weeks, to 31 August.

Philip McKay, Aberdeenshire Council's Head of Roads, explained: "While we have been working with the contractor to ensure delays are minimised as far as possible, they simply have not completed the work in the timescale they had.

"While we are unhappy road users will continue to experience delays until the end of August, these works have to be completed for the development to go ahead. As we had been assured on a number of occasions that extra resources would be allocated to complete the work by July 28, this is very disappointing for us and the travelling public."
