A new £7 million 'affordable' housing development has been opened in Paisley.

The 70-home scheme was built by McTaggart Construction for Link Group at Thrushcraigs.

The project was partially funded by the Scottish Government (£4.1m) and involved building 56 home for social rent, including four of which designed to meet the needs of wheelchair users.

In addition, 14 units are available to purchase through the New Supply Shared Equity scheme, two of which were also designed to meet a wheelchair user's requirements.

Each property has been designed to be energy efficient and include solar panels that generate free electricity during daylight.

Cllr Tommy Williams, who opened the new development, said: "We are pleased to see the opening of these new homes by Link, which has already delivered a number of landmark projects in Paisley town centre in recent years.

"This high-quality new housing will also help the Council reach our target of 1,000 new affordable homes in Renfrewshire by 2020."

Link Group Chief Executive, Craig Sanderson, added: "We are delighted to have been supported by the Scottish Government and Renfrewshire Council to enable us to build these new, high quality homes which will help play a part in the area's regeneration."

Link has also recently completed 38 flats at Abbey Place in Paisley, which are designed for independent retirement living.
