Brox Burn Bridge Opens Links

A brand new footbridge is now in place across the Brox Burn, reopening a link between Parkwood Gardens and West Burnside.

The bridge replaces one of six structures demolished along the length of the burn as a result of the floods in August last year.

The new bridge is stronger, wider and longer than the original and is built to withstand the effects of high flows in the burn. The adjoining footpath linking it to West Burnside is also now sloped to meet the needs of disabled people.

West Lothian Councillor Robert De Bold, who officially reopened the footbridge, said: "Local people have been inconvenienced for nearly a year by the loss of the footbridge.

"We are very pleased therefore to have the new bridge in place and the path reopened. We particularly appreciate the support that we have received from people living in West Burnside."

The reopening of the route was delayed by several weeks because unchartered gas pipes were discovered.

These had to be diverted and replaced by Scottish Gas.
