Mintlaw Offers New Build Information Day

Aberdeenshire Council is to hold an information day outlining plans for the demolition of 16 properties and construction of 18 new council properties in Mintlaw.

It will take place on Friday August 14 at Aden Country Park Inn, Station Road.

The drop-in session will run from 1.30pm to 7.00pm and are open to tenants involved in the project, as well as tenants and residents in the surrounding streets.

The council's housing and social work service carried out an extensive review of 16 properties at Pineview, Burnside Road and Birch Grove.

The results showed the properties did not meet modern housing standards and would be costly to maintain, insulate and heat.

Following the review the council opted to demolish the properties and provide new sustainable buildings of a much higher standard that would provide insulation and therefore be more economical for tenants to run.

Plans for the new homes in Mintlaw were discussed at a recent meeting of the council’s Social Work and Housing Committee as part of a report detailing the authority's successful bid for funding from the Scottish Government for £850,000.

The funding is part of a programme of house building that will involve the development of 36 new homes in total – 12 in Tarves, 18 in Mintlaw and six in Johnshaven.

Following the meeting, the Chairman, Councillor Gurudeo Saluja, said: "The delivery of affordable housing has been identified as a key priority across Aberdeenshire.

"The successful bid for funding from the Scottish Government means we are now able to take forward a scheme which increases access to housing in three of our communities."

Plans for the new-build properties, 3D images and a Power Point presentation will be on display at the information day and housing staff will be on hand to discuss and answer questions from residents and tenants.

A question and answer sheet of 'Frequently Asked Questions' will be available and the public will have the opportunity to write comments for the team.

The council is also seeking to form a tenants and residents association within the area in the future to work closely with the housing service and assist in the development of the project.

To volunteer to become a member of the group or for more information about the information day contact tenant participation officer Helen Burnett on 01779 483729.
