J&E Shepherd Appoints EPC Assessment Specialist

J&E Shepherd Chartered Surveyors has appointed Carla Belli, an EPC assessment specialist, in Aberdeen as a key part of its expansion of a dedicated commercial property Energy Performance Certificate service throughout Scotland.

An Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) is a document which states the energy efficiency of a building showing carbon dioxide ratings in bandings from A to G, with A being the least polluting and G being the most. The performance of the building is then benchmarked against current building standards and cost effective improvements recommended.

John Mackie, building surveyor at J&E Shepherd in Aberdeen, said: "Carla's appointment brings significant additional capacity to our building surveying department in the north-east of Scotland.

"The provision of commercial property EPCs is something which we’re devoting considerable resources towards – and we believe that, with Carla's appointment, we’re delivering a quality and breadth of EPC service unrivalled in Scotland."

A chartered building surveyor, with Level 4 EPC accreditation, Carla Belli has a wealth of experience working within the Aberdeen area.

"EPCs encourage building owners to reduce carbon emissions by classifying how energy-efficient a building is and by recommending how such emissions might best be reduced," she said.

"Although EPCs are now a legal requirement, as a firm, we seek to go beyond the provision of a minimum level of service to meet clients’ legal obligations. Instead, we seek to provide our clients with a value added service through the provision of a comprehensive energy audit too."

With official figures estimating that buildings are responsible for around 50% of the energy consumption in the UK, recent years have seen the government introduce a series of initiatives designed to encourage more energy efficient buildings, including the legal requirement for EPCs.
