Work Ongoing To Restore Castlehill Primary School After Flood

Work is ongoing at Castlehill Primary School to try to ensure that the school opens as normal after the summer break.

Following extensive damage caused by the recent flash floods in Cupar a massive clean up operation has been in place to get the school back to normal as soon as possible.

Louise Playford, Education Service Manager, said: "The school has been emptied and the environmental clean is now complete. Fortunately we have been able to salvage the majority of the furniture and equipment, anything which has been damaged will be replaced if required.

"The new floorcoverings are ready and workmen are available to start fitting the carpets as soon as the floors are dry. We have dehumidifiers and other equipment on site to help speed up the process."

The school will remain closed to staff until after 10th August to allow the work to progress.

Castlehill Primary School received major flood damage to floor coverings in a large proportion of its accommodation on 6 July 2009, as a result of very heavy rainfall in the Cupar area. The vast majority of resources held in the school were unaffected and are being stored to enable easier access for staff as they proceed with the drying and replacement processes. There was no damage to the fabric of the building."

Ms Playford continued: "At this point in time we are working towards the school opening as usual to pupils on Wednesday 19th August 2009, if there is any change to this situation we shall keep parents, staff and councillors updated."
