Alternative sites for the new Kirkcaldy residential care home, part of the £40m care home replacement programme, are currently being investigated.
The proposal had been to build the new care home on the existing Appin House site and surrounding land but following an extensive ground work survey, carried out by consulting engineers, the site is no longer an option.
Irene Burt, Project Manager, said: "It is disappointing that the proposed site is not suitable. However, we are confident that a new site will be found. Residents, families and staff have been advised that the site is no longer suitable and that we are looking for a new site.
"The design of the care home will not change - this will remain a 48 bed single-storey design. The consultation with families, residents and staff to incorporate their views and ideas will continue and we are still all excited about the new care home that will result."
