One of the capital's landmark venues, The Rutland Bar, has been named Morgan's Spiced Contemporary Bar of the Year in the Dram awards on Monday, 29 June 2009.

The accolade - the eighth won by the team this year - comes after a £4m transformation of the venue, which was completed in summer 2008.

The judges based their decision on The Rutland Bar's contemporary feel, its wide range of drinks and service.

Co-director Nic Wood said: "I'm absolutely delighted for our bar team. They have worked incredibly hard over the past year to put The Rutland on the map as a stylish, welcoming venue.

"Winning such a coveted industry award gives the team the recognition they deserve and it shows that it's possible to make an impact on Edinburgh's competitive bar scene."

Earlier this year, The Rutland won seven categories at the Scottish Hotel Awards and the Scottish Hotel of the Year Awards, including 'Best Bar' and 'Most Exciting New Restaurant of the Year'.
