A study into the use of Forestry Commission land on Arran for new, affordable homes will be carried out over the next three months.

North Ayrshire Council and HIFAR (Housing Initiative for Arran Residents), working in partnership with Isle of Arran Homes and Arran Community Council, have commissioned the study.

It will be done by a team of consultants led by Neil Sutherland Architects.

They will be looking at the potential of Commission land to build homes, provide self-build plots and develop woodland crofts.

In the course of the study there will be a number of public consultations.

Councillor Tom Barr, Executive member, Environment said: "This is another example of the Council's commitment since the Craigforth Report in 2007 to working closely with our partners to achieve affordable housing for Arran residents.

"The findings of this research will help identify further potential housing development opportunities on the island."
