Dunfermline East's new primary school will be named Carnegie Primary School and will be situated at South Fod West.

Fife Council's Education and Children’s Services Committee yesterday gave approval to both the name and location, which were the result of public consultation, taking into account the views of parents and the wider public.

The new Carnegie Primary School will be built at a site at South Fod West with the initial catchment area being the one which currently serves Duloch Primary School. The Committee also approved a further public consultation on the school catchment area which will take place in Autumn 2009.

To choose a name for the school three "working together" sessions were held with the wider parent body where various proposals were put forward for a name. These proposals were then sent to all potential parents. The overwhelming response was in favour of Carnegie Primary School.

Garry Crosbie, Education Senior Manager, said: "The results of our consultation for a site for the new Carnegie Primary School were overwhelmingly in favour of South Fod West.

"This is an exciting time for education with £126m being invested in new schools across Fife. The school for Dunfermline East has been long awaited and I hope now that we can progress rapidly and I look forward to seeing the new Carnegie pupils settle into their new school."
