Scottish Government investment of £200m will help deliver a new fleet of electric trains which will provide a major boost for rail passengers and encourage commuters onto more sustainable forms of transport Stewart Stevenson has said.
The Minister was speaking at Glasgow Central Station last week as he viewed the first prototype of one of the new 38-strong fleet of sustainable electric trains which will be delivered as a result of the investment.
Mr Stevenson said:" I'm delighted to see the very latest in sustainable rail technology arrive in Scotland. With rail patronage increasing, this vital investment will deliver real benefits for passengers through improved facilities, more trains and an additional 9000 seats on the network."
Steve Montgomery, Managing Director of ScotRail, added: "The new trains - to be introduced in Ayrshire, Inverclyde and Renfrewshire from September 2010 - will offer more seats, better accessibility and improved passenger comfort, as well as a number of environmentally friendly features."
