Plans to build the first Council houses in Stirling for 25 years are soon to become a reality as a result of a funding award from the Scottish Government.

Stirling Council has been awarded £600,000, and will commit a further £1.8m, to build 24 new homes for rent this year.

Welcoming the announcement by the Scottish Government Councillor Alasdair MacPherson, Portfolio Holder for Housing Strategy said: "This is a momentous moment for Stirling Council. This funding will see the Council return to building houses and I am very proud of that. Tackling the chronic shortage of social rented housing is a key priority for this administration.

"I'm delighted to receive this funding as it allows us to progress the implementation of our Strategic Housing Plan, which will see 244 new Council houses built over the next five years. The plan sets out a balanced programme of investment in new housing that ensures we meet the needs of urban and rural communities."

Twenty-one sites across Stirling have been identified for development. Potential areas to benefit from the new housing include Gargunnock, Bannockburn and Stirling.
