Around 200 properties in Camelon should see lower fuel costs following the installation of new high efficiency central heating systems.

Older electrical based systems will be replaced as part of Falkirk Council's planned housing investment programme at an approximate cost of £455,000 in a number of addresses throughout Camelon.

A meeting of the Falkirk Council's Policy and Resources Committee heard earlier this month how the contract had been awarded to CCG of Cambuslang, Glasgow who were expected to start in late April 2009.

The new systems will feature new gas condensing combination boilers, radiators and thermostatic controls with programmable heating and hot water controls allowing tenants far greater control over their energy use and consequently lower fuel bills.

Cllr Linda Gow, Convener of the Policy and Resources Committee said: "The work is part of a wider programme to give tenants better energy systems that are cheaper to run, more energy efficient and are more environmentally sound."
