Business Park Plans Earmarked For Approval

Plans for a major new business development in Aberdeen have been recommended for approval by city planners.

The outline proposal, for Balmoral Park Ltd, is for the creation of a business park on the undeveloped part of the Balmoral Park industrial area off Wellington Road. The scheme includes plans for business and industrial development, as well as a 128-bedroom hotel and a car showroom and workshop.

The planning application seeks permission to develop a mixed-use business park between the existing industrial buildings and Wellington Road on a site of rough grassland and partially used for the storage of industrial materials.

A range of uses and business types are proposed for the business park, including offices, industrial buildings, and storage facilities. The hotel and car showroom are planned on the edge of the site, fronting on to Wellington Road, while the offices are set in strategic landscaping, providing an attractive appearance on the southern approach to the city.

In a report about the application, head of planning and infrastructure Dr Margaret Bochel states: "The proposals as a whole will provide substantial business floorspace with a total of approximately 13,000 square metres of office space within nine units of varied floor area in the southern part of the site.

"In the rear parts of the site the 12 industrial units will provide a range of building footprints totalling 7,521 square metres of accommodation. These developments will be complemented by a 128-bedroom hotel and car showroom and workshop."

In her report, Dr Bochel highlights several benefits of the proposed development, and writes that it "will make a valuable contribution to the availability of modern business and industrial facilities in the city".

A new direct access to the development is proposed from Wellington Road. The application will be considered by Aberdeen City Council's planning committee on Thursday, 19 March.
