£5m Police Station Planned For Braehead

Strathclyde Police plan to build a new £5m state-of-the-art police station at Braehead.

It will serve the communities of Renfrew, Braehead, Erskine, Inchinnan, Bishopton, and Glasgow Airport.

The building will be constructed at the Braehead and Renfrew Riverside mixed-used developments on Station Road.

Designed to be highly energy efficient the new station building will feature the latest IT systems and put customer-focused policing service at the forefront.

The new station will replace the police office at Renfrew.

Chief Inspector Kevin Quinn, Deputy Sub Divisional Officer, Renfrew Police Office, welcomed the replacement: "The current building in Inchinnan Road was opened in the 1920s and its design and functionality falls short of what is expected as a standard for delivery of a modern police service."

"The site for the replacement office is located close to the town centre making it easily accessible.

"It will complement the redevelopment and new building work that is currently underway in the local area, this will see Renfrew’s population expand and add a vibrant dimension to the Riverside area.

"Provisional plans for the inside of the new office highlight comfortable facilities for the public who may have to attend their local police office and will allow the police officers and members of police staff to operate from a purpose built facility that will see us well into the next century," he said.

Construction is expected to begin in the summer this year and is due for completion in autumn 2010.
