Leading law firm McGrigors, in conjunction with Wood Group and Brander Recruitment, are hosting a workshop for contractors and companies using contractors.
The seminar will focus on reducing the risk of employee tax and implied employment status following the case of Dragonfly Consulting in which an independent contractor was held to be liable for £99,000 in unpaid taxes.
Since the Dragonfly case there has been an increased need to ensure contractors are not fixed with a tax liability and end users do not find they have inadvertently assumed extra employees.
The workshop, run by McGrigors' Aberdeen employment and pensions team, will look at basic law in this area and IR35 and MSC (managed service companies) legislation.
It will also examine the design and content of contracts between contractors, end users and employees, and how day to day practices can be adjusted to minimise risk.
The seminar will be held at the Marcliffe at Pitfodels on Wednesday 4 March from 4pm to 7.30pm. Refreshments will be provided, cost is £10 payable at the event.
