Right to Buy has been temporarily suspended for some tenants in Forres, which has now been designated as a 'pressured area'.

This will affect 28% of the social housing stock in Forres. This follows the Scottish Government's decision to approve Moray Council's pressured area application and will allow the Council to retain homes for rent for people on low incomes in areas facing social housing pressures aggravated by Right to Buy.

Moray is the twelfth local authority to have successfully applied to use the pressured area mechanism.

Councillor McGillivray, Chairman of the Council’s Communities Committee, welcomed the announcement: "Tackling the shortage of affordable housing in Moray is a priority for the Council. This is one of a number of actions that can help us to meet housing need. But ultimately, we need more affordable houses to be built in Moray and we will continue to work towards the achievement of that."
