Fundraising For St Andrew's Cathedral Refurb Begins

Fundraising has commenced for a full refurbishment and extension of St Andrew's Cathedral.

The Roman Catholic Archdiocese in Scotland will raise the cash for renovations and extensions including a new cloister garden and apse.


Peter Howson, one of Scotland's most famous painters, has been asked to paint a huge, dramatic rendering of the martyrdom of St John Ogilvie, to be placed in the cathedral when it re-opens.

Peter Howson said he was delighted to be asked to do the commission: "As an artist it is a huge honour to be asked to create a work of art for a Cathedral."

Work on site is set to commence from July 2009 with completion scheduled for 2010.
