Midlothian Council Welcomes £250,000 Landfill Tax Windfall Boost For Football Club

Midlothian Council has warmly welcomed the award of a £250,000 landfill tax windfall to Loanhead Miners Youth Football Club.

The club has been awarded the money from the Waste Recycling Group Challenge Fund which allocates funds raised from landfill taxes at various sites across the UK - including the Oatslie landfill site, near Penicuik.

The cash will be used to completely refurbish the Bayne Memorial Hall - which is home to the Loanhead Miners Youth Football Club.

Bayne Memorial Hall is leased by Midlothian Council to the club and Councillor Russell Imrie, Midlothian Council cabinet member for strategic services, said: "We're already working with the club on their development plans and the cash will be used to completely refurbish the interior of Bayne Memorial Hall - which will remain in council ownership - into a multi-functional sports facility, which will be the first in the area with an indoor 5-a-side hall for use by the club and other local community groups and sports clubs.

"Nobody likes paying taxes - whether they are private householders or business. But the £250,000 grant is truly a landfill tax windfall for Loanhead Miners YFC which we can all warmly welcome today."
