Angus Council is to release three of its early action development sites for affordable housing in a move to support the building industry and local registered social landlords (RSLs) at a difficult time whilst providing much-needed homes in Angus.

At a meeting of the council's Neighbourhood Services committee, on Thursday 15 January, members agreed to release the sites at Harry Farmer Court, Arbroath; Newmonthill, Forfar and Marywell Gardens, Kirriemuir to be developed in partnership with RSLs. The Kirriemuir and Arbroath sites will be prioritised for family housing.

The existing buildings on the sites will be demolished, and all replacement buildings will have sprinkler systems installed.

The three sites will be put forward by the council to the Scottish Government for the third round of funding from the COSLA/Scottish Government £100m accelerated affordable housing investment programme as priority projects for Angus.

Convener of Neighbour Services, Jim Millar said: "Angus Council is committed to responding to the pressures facing the construction industry and to supplying affordable housing for rent, built to good design standards and that is why we have taken the decision to accelerate the development of these sites at this time."
