Plans have been lodged for a new community centre in Kilmacolm.
Funding for the project has been secured thanks to £1m from Inverclyde Council, £1m from the Cargill Fund and local donations.
The project will see the village's two old primary school buildings refurbished to provide accommodation for the library and community groups, from youth clubs to the bride club.
The Kilmacolm New Community Centre Company hopes work will start in the spring.
Inverclyde councillor David Wilson, chair of Inverclyde Council Planning Board said: "This is a welcome application and it will be assessed in the normal manner. However the refurbishment of both primary schools in the village centre will provide an excellent facility for Kilmacolm and Quarriers."
