The Meffan Museum and Art Gallery closed to the public yesterday for a £126,000 refit to improve access.
The work will include the installation of a ramp and lift and is scheduled to be completed by April.
While the refurbishment is taking place, tourist information services will be provided from Forfar Library at 50/56 West High Street.
The works are part of Angus council's wider accessibility programme to improve access to its buildings for all users.
Posters have been displayed in the Meffan since December to alert users to the closure. The months of January and February are the quietest for the museum and the projected reopening will coincide with visitor numbers picking up again.
