A new gym specially designed for young children is to be opened at Aberdeen's St Joseph's RC School on Friday November 21.
Staff at the school were keen to improve its early years play facilities, and successfully for capital grant funding to do just that so they could promote the Curriculum for Excellence, active learning, and to follow government guidelines on exercise for children.
The money was used to buy mini gym equipment including a treadmill, stepper machine, rowing machine, exercise bike, soft assault course equipment, and climbing frame and activity centres.
Parents joined staff in building the equipment, which is for pupils in nursery, P1 and P2, and to decorate the room.
Principal teacher Cara Ruth said: "The children absolutely love their new gym equipment and have had a huge amount of fun with it already.
"The efforts of parents and staff to create this fabulous facility were truly wonderful and are very much appreciated by all at St Joseph's - especially our youngest children who are having a great time playing in the gym and keeping fit at the same time.
"This just goes to show that exercise really can be fun."
