An apprentice at Morris & Spottiswood has been rewarded for his ambition and efforts after winning a prestigious excellence award from his college.

Ross Walsh, 23, from Easterhouse, won this year's Roof Tiling Excellence Award from South Lanarkshire College. The Slating & Roughcasting apprentice is currently employed on Morris & Spottiswood's Ashgill site for Glasgow Housing Association.

According to his line manager, George Rooney, Ross impressed his employers from his very first interview with his enthusiasm and willingness to learn.

Mr Rooney added: "Ross has a mature attitude and always delivers 100% effort. What makes Ross different is the fact that he really embraces all the opportunities presented to him."

Honoured with the Marley Eternit Award for Roof Tiling Excellence (2nd Year), Ross's pride in his work has also been recognised by the college, who base their excellence awards on criteria including outstanding work, timekeeping, effort and teamwork.

The college recently relocated which, despite the additional distances involved, has not dampened Ross' positive outlook. Currently in his second year, Ross has completed his SVQ level 2, and is now on his Advanced Craft Award. He is hoping to continue on to an HNC when he completes his apprenticeship.
