Work is set to begin on making the road that goes through the heart of Clackmannanshire safer.

Council has approved the project to realign the B9140 road between Glenochil and Collyland Roundabout at its meeting yesterday.

The upgrading of the road is one of the Council's main long term transportation objectives. It will create a strategic east - west route from one side of the county to the other.

Welcoming the project, Councillor Eddie Carrick, Portfolio Holder for Sustainability, said: "Over the past few years the travelling public has felt the benefit of the Tullibody Bypass and the new roundabouts at Muirside and Collylands. Clackmannanshire Council has a long term strategy of phased upgrading of the B9140 from the A907 at Dumyat View Roundabout to the A977 east of Dollarbeg to improve accessibility, reduce traffic travelling through the Hillfoots villages, improve road safety and assist economic development. This decision takes us a step closer."

The total project will cost £951,000 and Council agreed to accept the tender from Kilmac Construction Ltd. Council has previously set aside £848,000 for this project and the meeting also agreed to reallocate £103,000 from other areas of the roads and transportation budget in order to allow the project to go ahead.
