Work Begins At Port Seton Play Area

Work has started on the refurbishment of the King George V Play Park adjacent to Port Seton Centre, East Lothian. Contractors are busy resurfacing and removing the old damaged equipment and installation of the new equipment, weather dependent, will take place throughout November in time for Christmas.

Community Services spokesman, Cllr Stuart Currie said: "The final design for the play park is currently on display in Port Seton Centre Café and in Cockenzie Primary School. A Steering Group, made up of local parent volunteers from the community, the Port Seton Advisory Committee and Cockenzie & Port Seton Community Council were the drivers behind this project and through their consultation process were able to identify and provide many items of play equipment requested by local children."

Heavy vehicles will be in and around the park over the coming weeks and local people, especially children should be extra careful when entering King George V Park as work is in operation. Safety fencing has been erected around the play park area as this is now closed to the public.

East Lothian Council has allocated £40,000 for the refurbishment of the play park and a successful funding bid by the Steering Group to Viridor has secured a further £30,000. The park will now offer a wide variety of play experiences for children with separate toddler and junior areas for youngsters to swing, climb, balance, slide, jump and have fun with. This will provide a much welcomed early Christmas present.
