Major upgrading work has begun at one of the main approach roads into Kirkwall, Orkney.
There will be major resurfacing works on Grainshore Road and Ayre Mills roundabout, after which the Orkney Island Council will carry out resurfacing and footway and kerbing upgrades on Ayre Road.
During these works road users will be subject to delays and diversions, as traffic controls and road closures may be in place.
Work started today as Grainshore Road between Hatston Slip and Ortak is being resurfaced. Some of this work will be carried out in the evening and during the night and should finish on October 24.
The second phase will see the work move to Ayre Mills Roundabout and a short section of each approach road. Again some of this will be evening and night work and will take place between October 29 and November 2.
Footway works and the resurfacing of the section of Ayre Road between Ayre Mills Roundabout and Ayre Roundabout will follow on from this.
