The Scottish Police Services Authority have announced a new £16.2m forensic superlab is to be built at City Quay, Dundee, replacing the lab at Tayside Police headquarters.
Kenny MacAskill, the Scottish Justice Secretary, said it would help transform the provision of forensic services across Scotland.
The facility will house a national DNA database, fingerprint and scenes of crime examination unit.
Dundee City Council leader, Kevin Keenan welcomed the project: "Our ambitious plans for the redevelopment of Dundee's central waterfront will be strengthened by this substantial investment."
