A proposal for Dumfries and Galloway Council to make a £400,000 bid for the former Gretna FC stadium has failed.

Raydale Park, the former home of the football club, was put on the market following the demise of the SPL football team and the absence of a council bid.

Annandale East councillor Archie Dryburgh tabled a proposal to make a bid for the ground to be bought and run as a community project.

At a full council meeting the decision not to make a bid for the football stadium was won by a single vote.

Gretna FC went into administration earlier this year, no buyer has been found for the playing ground. This is the second time the Dumfries and Galloway council has ruled out making an offer with councillors saying lack of clarity over ownership makes it too uncertain a prospect to invest in.

A new team has now been set up, based in neighbouring Annan it plays East of Scotland league matches.
