4,500th Home Receives Grade 'A' System

East Ayrshire Council confirmed its commitment to tackle fuel poverty in the shortest possible timescale by unveiling the 4,500th home to be provided with the benefits of a Grade 'A' gas central heating system.

The new central heating is just one part of a range of energy efficiency measures designed to reduce heating costs for its tenants.

The new heating system fitted for Mrs McCrystal, of Kirktonholm Place, Kilmarnock, uses a condensing combination boiler to provide efficient space heating and instantaneous hot water on demand and at the highest achievable energy efficiency rating currently available. Other measures have also been fitted to minimise fuel costs including enhanced loft insulation, wall insulation and draught proofing to doors and windows where required.

The Council continues to progress this work through its Housing Investment Programme at a current rate of 1,000 homes per year.

Spokesperson for Community Wellbeing, Councillor Kathy Morrice, said: "As a Council, East Ayrshire is committed to providing the best service for its tenants. We appreciate that a great many people face the challenge of rising fuel costs.

"Our recent review of property maintenance services gives us an exciting opportunity to target more money towards this work and we will continue to examine any future developments in energy efficiency to tackle fuel poverty and ensure that fuel costs for our tenants are kept as low as possible."
