Plans For New Aviemore Youth Centre Unveiled

Plans were unveiled today in Aviemore for a proposed construction development providing retail space and a new youth centre for the area.

The Highland Council has entered a joint venture with Rathven Investments of Aviemore to redevelop the site of the town’s existing Youth Club into a new two-storey building providing shops on the ground floor with a new youth facility at first floor level.

The proposed development will create retails units and a Youth Café with 185-sqm-floor area, kitchen, toilets and small office or a one-to-one room and flexible space on land that is owned by The Highland Council. Rathven Investments, Aviemore will be lodging a planning application with architectural design by Keppie Design of Inverness. The proposals are subject to the developer obtaining planning permission from the local authority’s Planning Committee.

Highland Councillor for Badenoch and Strathspey, Jaci Douglas who is a committee member of the Aviemore Youth Club said: "We are very excited about the proposals for a new home for Aviemore Youth Club as our young people deserve so much more than the shack that they have had to put up with for years. Having a purpose-built place that they can use that is central to the community will be a great asset for everyone."

David Cameron of Rathven Investments said: "We are delighted to be entering this partnership with The Highland Council to create new shopping and youth facilities that will be of benefit to the people of Aviemore and visitors to the area."
