Construction Company Bilfinger Berger, which are leading the £500m Edinburgh Tram Project, are recruiting 50 new skilled workers to help deliver Scotland’s largest infrastructure project.

In addition to the company's 70 existing employees, engineers, foremen, sub agents, quantity surveyors, project managers, an environmental advisor and a business systems assistant are needed.

Richard Walker, managing director of Bilfinger Berger UK Limited, said: "The Edinburgh Tram project is one of the most exciting and challenging infrastructure developments currently happening anywhere in the UK.

"We already have an excellent team in place in Edinburgh and, with the construction phase of the project gathering momentum, we are now in a position to ramp up our recruitment.

"This project will deliver the world class tram system which Scotland's capital deserves and we're delighted that we are able to support the local economy by boosting employment in the city."

Bilfinger Berger’s contract is for the core section of Edinburgh's 18.5km tram line from Leith Waterfront to Edinburgh Airport.

In addition to track work, construction includes the building of 11 bridges, nine substations, 22 tram stops, the tram maintenance depot at Gogar and 27 trams.
