Lakesmere Goes Back To School

The start of a new school year sees the appointment of national building envelope specialists Lakesmere Glasgow to work on a number of prestigious contracts in the education sector.

Lakesmere has now commenced work at Anniesland College, a £1.8m two-phased cladding contract. The first stage of works will see the design and installation of a complex cladding package comprising CGL Rainscreen Rhenzink zinc wall panels and Kingspan composite panels to the college's new two-storey teaching blocks. The second phases, which will commence in mid 2009 will see the Lakesmere team installing Sinusoidal cladding and Kingspan composite panels to the new sports and exhibition hall.

Work is also underway on a new PFI project in West Lothian that includes Armadale Academy and Deans Community School, where the team has been appointed to undertake various roofing and cladding work.

These new contract wins are just the latest additions to Lakesmere Glasgow's impressive and varied portfolio of educational projects.

Repeat business has long been the key to Lakesmere's success and the Glasgow team was appointed to undertake work on all four of the new schools that were created or refurbished as part of the £65m East Renfrewshire school PP project. Comprising Williamwood, Woodfarm, Carlibar and Mearns Castle High Schools, the prestigious scheme saw Lakesmere work alongside Keppie Design to complete various roofing and cladding work.

Lakesmere has also enjoyed working with architects Jenkins & Marr on four different college projects across Scotland, including Reid Kerr, Cumbernauld, Clydebank and South Lanarkshire Colleges.

Both Reid Kerr and Cumbernauld College were challenging new extensions to existing buildings, whilst Clydebank College, was a new build project that formed an important part of the overall redevelopment of the area along the River Clyde. The success of the first three projects ultimately led to Lakesmere’s appointment to once again work alongside architects Jenkins and Marr on South Lanarkshire College. Lakesmere were contracted by key client Balfour Beatty to design and install the roof and cladding packages comprising Kingspan wall panels, a CGL Rainscreen system and a Kalzip aluminium roof plus associated flashings and fabrications. The £1.7m project was completed at the end of June in time for the new autumn term.
