The Scottish Government has issued an invitation to local authorities to bid for funding from its 2008-10 Traveller Site Grant.
This grant is provided as part of the Scottish Government's commitment to supporting the provision of good quality services and sites for travellers in Scotland.
In total, £2m is available to local authorities over 2008-10 for new residential or transit sites and for the improvement of existing sites for travellers in Scotland.
In recent years, funding has generally supported refurbishment projects and, on this occasion, the Government is particularly keen to see proposals to develop new residential or transit sites in areas where there is unmet demand. Up to date information on traveller site use was recently published in Travellers in Scotland: The Twice Yearly Count - No. 13: January 2008.
The closing date for local authorities to make grant applications is 30 October 2008. Information about the site grant has been sent directly to local authorities, however, interested parties can request this or further information by contacting the Scottish Government Social Housing Division on 0131 244 5401.
