Scottish Woodfair Returns to Perth

The Scottish Woodfair, a celebration of Scotland's wood and timber industries hosted by Forestry Commission Scotland, is set to make a welcome return to Perth this September and organisers are hoping to show an increase in visitors to the event which is now in its sixth successful year.

This year the Scottish Woodfair will spread its roots across several Fair City venues taking in Dewars Conference Centre, St John's Shopping Centre and Kinnoull Hill. Visitors to the Scottish Woodfair will also be able to take advantage of a complimentary WoodBus service to enable them to move easily from venue to venue.

The event, which will run from Friday 12th - Sunday 14th September, aims to celebrate Scottish wood, both inside and out.

Visitors of all ages will be able to enjoy the very best that working with Scottish wood has to offer when they visit the exhibition and shopping at Dewars Centre. Features include:

  • Wood in the Park: Our relaxed demonstration area with picnic benches and log stools where you can have your face painted and see woodwork in action.
  • Woodstock: Enjoy the sound of wood with some of Perthshire’s finest musicians from Perth Symphony Orchestra and Perth Youth Orchestra.
  • Hollywood: No wooden acting to be seen! Sit back and enjoy The Enchanted Forest; or perhaps you’d prefer to get to grips with A Convenient Truth? Our cinematic experience is not to be missed.
New to this year's Scottish Woodfair, St John’s Shopping Centre will be getting in on the action, providing the event’s first ever city centre venue. Visitors to the shopping centre can take advantage of the free demonstrations outside the King Edward Street entrance at the dedicated Woodshed and shoppers in the town centre will be able to enjoy the additional street entertainment that has been organised.

If you prefer a more outdoors approach to life, start your Scottish Woodfair experience up Kinnoull Hill in Perth. Whether it's outdoor arts and crafts, a spooky ghost walk up Kinnoull Hill or you just fancy seeing a saw bench in action, it’s all here!

Mike Strachan, organiser of Scottish Woodfair 2008 said: "The Scottish Woodfair has grown significantly and is now heralded as the industry's leading event. This year the event returns to Perth and has the added value of a city centre venue to complement our more established exhibition halls and external demonstrations held on site at Kinnoull Hill."

"The calibre of exhibitors and demonstrators this year is extremely high and we're certain it will provide a quality day out for all the family." he concluded.
