A new housing development planned for Milngavie, East Dunbartonshire has been granted planning permission.
Cala Management Ltd is to build 18 affordable homes on a vacant site near to the town's Lynn Drive.
There will also be 27 private homes built as part of the same development.
East Dunbartonshire Council have said providing quality affordable housing is a challenge for the council and with demand far outstripping supply for council houses, a policy of pushing for housing developments over 15 units (like this one) to include 40% social rented housing has been adopted.
Councillor Simon Hutchison, Chair of the Planning Board, said: "Councillors looked long and hard at this application and visited the site before making a decision.
"The land has been zoned for housing for a number of years now and the planning consent contains a number of conditions which will ensure that the development is built in accordance with all relevant planning policies.
"It is a great outcome for the area that 18 of the 45 homes will be homes available to local people who would not be in a position to buy their own home otherwise."
