Stirling's Castle Business Park is set for a major expansion, including new affordable homes, after being granted outline planning permission by Stirling Council's Planning Panel.

The development by City of Stirling Business Parks Ltd and Elphinstone Land Ltd on the site of the old Kildean Market was given the nod by the Panel for the expansion to Castle Business Park, a Further Education College, hotel, restaurant, retail, 300 new homes and angling platforms.

Outline planning permission was approved for the 36 hectare site, next to the River Forth, subject to a number of conditions being addressed at the detailed planning application stage and subject to the negotiation of a Section 75 Agreement to secure affordable homes, off-site road improvements, pedestrian and cycle improvements and money towards bus routes to the new development.

Planning Panel Chair, Alasdair MacPherson said: "This Panel has given a clear message to developers that the Council will not compromise on providing affordable housing, that is, 25% of the total residential housing is to be affordable, in line with Council policy."

The number and mix of houses would be phased in over several years so that there is no adverse impact on local schools'.

The application will now be referred to Scottish Ministers for consideration, as it constitutes a departure to the Development Plan.
