Glasgow To Host 2014 Games Legacy Events

The people of Glasgow are being asked what legacy they want from the 2014 Commonwealth Games at two events in the city this week.

The events take place at the University of Strathclyde Students' Union, this Thursday, July 10 between 2pm and 3.30pm, and later the same day at Tollcross Leisure Centre, from 6.00pm to 7.30pm.

Scottish Government staff will make a brief presentation about the development of a Commonwealth Games legacy, which will be followed by a discussion session. The Scottish Government will publish an interim action plan towards the end of this year, and a Commonwealth Games Legacy Plan in summer 2009.

Minister for Communities and Sport, Stewart Maxwell, said: "I hope that as many people as possible turn out in Glasgow this week. We want to hear their views on what they want from the 2014 Games.

"This Government has always made clear that hosting the 2014 Games is not just about hosting a two-week sporting festival.

"It presents Scotland with great opportunities to make real improvements to people's lives, to raise our sights as a nation and regenerate communities across Scotland. We need individuals, groups and organisations to examine our proposals rigorously, and to think creatively about how the Games can help in their area."
