David Reid of Knight Frank said: "We are delighted with the speed in which the sale of this prestigious property occurred. The hotel boasts a unique position overlooking the 1st tee of Royal Dornoch Golf Course and has an important local history.

"We received a lot of interest in the property and its quick sale demonstrates a continued confidence from developers and investors in the hotel and leisure sector. The success of this deal indicates that there is still significant demand from discerning buyers at the top end of the hotel market and we can confirm that the new owners will take over the property from next week."

The property is situated beside Royal Dornoch Golf Course which is the world's third oldest golf course. Adjoining the famous Tom Morris course is the 18 hole Struie Links designed by Donald Steel and within a short distance of Dornoch there are 11 other historic courses.
