Balfour Kilpatrick Relocates To Reduce Carbon Footprint

Balfour Kilpatrick is relocating its head office, Projects Unit and Scotland West operations in a move to reduce its carbon footprint.

The new office is situated in nearby Hillington Park, Scotland's largest business park. The move into Lumina building, close to Glasgow International Airport, took place yesterday.

Garry Black, Managing Director said: "The building benefits from lots of natural daylight, energy efficient lighting controls, solar thermal water heating and solar control glass, which will make the building very energy efficient; Lumina building is in excess of BREEAM best standards.

"All white goods will be AAA rated and even the desks are from an FSC approved source making the office as environmentally friendly as possible. A car sharing/parking policy has been introduced, and showers and cycle racks are provided as part of the Green Travel Plan.

"These initiatives will go a long way in helping us meet and exceed our carbon reduction targets as part of our SEE the future campaign."

Within the office environment, collection bins for segregated waste, 'green' stationery products and water based cleaning products will be utilised. Power usage will be reduced through server consolidation and virtualisation, and air conditioning is energy efficient through interactive climate monitoring. An estimated 87,000 litres of water per year is to be saved by using waterless urinals.
